I've come to realize that with all the work that's been done to improve the site, like the daily reviews, different things for the info site, and more detailed profiles, it might not be enough to help new members, which we will definitely gain in part 3. In fact, I suspect that due to the complexity of the rpg, all our work to make sure that the old members know what is going on is just making it look even worse to new members who have no clue where to even start learning.
Therefore, I think we need to start a series of small projects for helping new members. This doesn't just include in assisting them in making a profile consistent to the RPG, but helping them understand how things in general work around here, what their character would know, how the RPed world works and the general background around it (not necessarily the RPG background; example of this being the fused worlds in general compared to the RPG’s specific Acamina.) Also, very simple, general info on characters could help to have a feel of what is already in the game, and people they might want to try to hang out with. A simplistic index of terms and useful notes could also help, which may or may not include a pronunciation guide. Last, and probably one of the first to work on, would be a sort of Q&A type thing to help in explaining both really weird events in-game, and how to locate information out-of-game.
In theory, all of this could be in a ‘Character-knowledge’ sense and keeping the players ignorant of anything else, but I feel like that would be treating them too unfairly, in case they want to be able to find that info. Therefore I think we ought to either make two versions, label PC info vs char info, or make things in general a little above char info and if the character acts using minor outside knowledge, then make sure that it is info that they might have heard about in-game, like maybe hearing about an event in-game from a random digimon or a newspaper.
Now, I seriously hope that everyone in DF, (excluding the more newer members that are still learning themselves), will work at making sure that any new members in part 3 will feel welcome, informed, and make sure that they properly fit into the RPG. I just want to be able to have this in case there are people unable to IM one of you, or are looking but can’t find anything besides the daily reviews and timelines, which are designed with the reader knowing who is who and previous events and so on.
For now, I’d like to get the following set up to help members.
-Simple Character notes/mini-profile
-Q&A
-Setting background
-VERY simple LD to DF guide.
I would highly appreciate any volunteers to helping or suggestions on other assistive tools. Thank you.
