****Early Night, December 15th****
John observed the shore as they crept towards it, the raft powered only a by a failing wind. Hetmon pertained that the was enough force in the weather to help them to the coast, this was most pleasing as neither had the conviction to put the oars to use. He lay back and squirmed, seeking a little comfort amongst the hard and splintering logs that comprised the deck, unsurpisingly the luxury eluded him and he resorted to a more upright position. At this point he might have slid into some reflective or philosophical state of mind but a rather loud and evidently upset cry sounded from the top of the mast. "OH! STINKY!" "Whats the matter with you?" John asked as Hetmon scrabbled down from his perch. "Sorry, city. All at once." "Eh?" "Cities, they don't smell nice. Got a big one suddenly on the wind." "Ouch..." "You bet it was ouch."

Much later, a short outwards foray off the beach suggested that there wasn't much around and the pair elected to remain on the beach, start a fire and just hang out. Conversations came and went and shifted from topic to topic. Right now the main concern was the stars.
"I'm sure there's more than there used to be" John insited for the fifth time. Hetmon in turn persisted that there was not. "Honestly," the human continued "Look, i can see Orion but its full of other stars too. I can't even find the plow let alone that other one." "Which other one?" "The one that looks like a thing" "A thing?" "Yeah, a thi-"
The conversation was at that point rudely intterupted. A lound bang sounded over the horizon and a flash of white light pulsed up from behind the sea.
"What the holy carpfish was that?!" John shouted in surprise as he scrabbled to his feet. Initially he was surprised that Hetmon didn't suggest they went and looked, good thing too since it looked like a nuke or something had just gone off. Unfortunately all his hopes were dashed as he heard his friend pushing the raft out.
