dont worry, this is pretty much resolved anyway
Possibly
I know some of you possibly think I'm being sexist. Sexism is thinking that males and females aren't equal. I think that they're very different, but NOT unequal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/newsh/items/article/item_9279.html “We are different from head to toe,” says Denise L. Faustman, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. “But it’s taken a while for sex-based biology to replace bikini medicine, which says the only difference between men and women is breasts and genitals. Women are different in their bone structure, immune systems, and hormonal environment — not just their reproductive organs.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An interesting article that mentions "scientific sexism": http://www.serve.com/revev/women.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems this Darwin dude is pretty important... http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/1996/PSCF9-96Bergman.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some ppl have crazy ideas: http://www.thinkmuscle.com/articles/haycock/women-and-lower-body-fat.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.goscience.com.au/content.asp?id=833 "But what if a man and a woman carry out the same training?
Leigh: The chances are, the man would be stronger than the woman. Firstly, men are usually larger than women, and their muscles are correspondingly larger. Another factor is testosterone which is a male hormone. Testosterone has the effect that when a man trains, he will build up more muscle than a female will.
Matthew: Yes - if men and women train equally, men end up with more lean muscle tissue than women. What this means is that if a short explosive action is required, such as in a martial arts move, men tend to have more power."
Important points: "There are some factors that training can’t change. For example, a woman’s skeletal system is fundamentally different from a man’s. Her arms are usually shorter, which means she has a shorter ‘lever’ when it comes to throwing … and wouldn’t be able to throw a grenade (if they still use them!) as far.
Also the hip bones are wider. This means that the angle between the pelvis and the thigh bone is greater. One of the results of this is that women generally can’t run as fast as men. They can’t lift their knees as high, and they can’t push on the ground as hard when they run."
But note the positives too: "But on the positive side, lower hips and narrower shoulders mean that women have a lower centre of gravity. This makes them more stable.
Also women generally have more body fat for their mass, which means they can cope better with rationing, and also with the cold. Female endurance swimmers often fare better than male swimmers.
Matthew: And as far as skills like good aim or — in the case of sport – ball handling are concerned, provided you start training early, girls and boys are equal.
What about stamina? Are women ‘tough’ enough?
Matthew: Once again, the biggest factor is the training. In the past, women missed out on the best training. But these days more and more women are taking up traditionally male-dominated sports such as golf, soccer and weight lifting, and they’re really catching up with the men.
Leigh: And when it comes to the issue of pain threshold, many people say that women can cope with more pain than men." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Different parts of the brain develop differently depending on gender. This can lead to 'gender disphoria' - a disorder where the brain develops differently to the body. Men are better generally at spatial relationships and visual mathematics, while women are better with words.
Studies on young children showed an interesting trend. They put boys and girls behind a baby gate. The boys would push against the gate, trying to knock it over. The girls would just stand there and cry until someone came to pick them up.
Men are better with maps, while women are better at landmarks. Men can find directions better, while women are better at vocabulary. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you know it, feminism has made the great achivement in America, maybe the most successful feminism country in the world. But American feminism was ended in failure in Japan. The American feminism looks like it says "men and women are equal", but actually the concept is "women must become men". America has least "history", so American women were naturally able to accept to abondon their "pride of woman" and act just same as men. Japanese feminist tried to import this American feminism. At the begining, they got an enthusiastic welcome, but soon Japanese women found how absurd it was. It's true that women who can mimic men's way should get the sexual equality. But how about who want to be feminine, in another words, who don't want to lose the women's pride and mimic men's way? America successed to establish the common sence of "the way of people is the men's way" without noticing it. Japanese women noticed it by instinct, and objected it. That's one of the reason Japanese feminism couldn't bring it's ideal results. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- That stuff's deep, and I can understand why some ppl deny facts like that, just like most humans try to cover unpleasent thoughts with religion. Some things don't seem fair or balanced, but for everything that men have an advantage over, women have an advantage over something else.. I say to just embrace differences or try to defy them, but never deny their existance.

Strength, ability to defend yourself, all of those things you say are different, none of that is different between males and females BECAUSE OF GENDER, its lifestyle. If you have a guy and a girl live the same lifestyle, they will turn out the same. especially if they are brother/sister. Gender NEVER determines ANY of that. THAT is what I am saying.
That's 100% wrong.
Females have a smaller frame than guys do. Are you saying that girls are atronger pound-for-pound? You need to get out more.

Not trying to persuade, just showing solid facts.
Besides, that's like saying that you wouldn't belive that mice are normally smaller than rats because the only ones you saw are big buff mice in your life. No offense, but that's an illogical answer. Solid facts don't lie.

Ok heres some fyi for you all
1. Women are statistically proven to be stronger than males 2. You are who you make yourself out to be...lifestyle, etc nothing else can determine who they are but themselves. If you chose to be strng youll be strong if you chose to be weak your weak...itsd not based on sex at all...but again I think Jenni's comment back there onher last post says it all.
Now im asking please no more of this thread at all anymore for now.

1-If you mean physical strength, definitely not true. Read teh linkies on page 2. This is NOT based on opinion, it's based on solid fact. I have no idea where you got that. Also, take an average female, and an average male, the female SHOULDN'T be able to overpower the male- that's just realistic. Women just naturally have smaller frames than men. It doesn't make them bad, but it does allow men to exert their influence over them without even having to resort to physical strength. The threat is everpresent, which is what creates male dominated societies in the first place. 2-Very true. This I can't agree with you more. This is the main point I wanted to make, but everyone kept trying to make me out to be sexist when I'm really not.

Sorry, but what's been said by everyone else in this thread for the past dosen or so posts has just been illogical and opinionated, while I stated solid facts and proof of them. No one else showed me any.
Seriously, there's no reason to deny any of these things and it cirtainly don't make anyone superior or inferior to anyone else AT ALL. DON'T think it's wrong to except it, and DON'T think you're limited to what nature provided you with. That goes for males and females. Only when both men and women can realize that they're equal in potential, but differ in methodology will sexism OR feminism ever dissappear. To this day the entire sexism/feminism debacle is still nothing more than two immature kids yelling "My way is better!" at each other.
